LIFE CYCLE OF Diatraea indigenella UNDER SEVERAL FOOD REGIMES
Main Article Content
The life cycles of D. indigenella and D. saccharalis were determined under three different types of foodstuff: young corn ears, an artificial diet, and sugarcane. When fed with the first two, the individuals were kept in an environmental chamber (T=30°C; H.R.=80%), but those fed with sugar cane were kept under greenhouse conditions (T=24°C; H.R.=-67,5%). Females of both species had a longer life cycle than males. The number of instars before pupation was variable, from four to eleven. Most of the larvae reached pupation in the sixth instar. The duration of each instar increased in larvae that passed through a larger number of instars.
