BIOLOGY AND ECOLOGY OF Liriomyza trifolii BURGESS (DIPTERA: AGROMYZIDAE) PEST OF CHRYSANTHEMUM DEPARTMENT OF VALLE DEL CAUCA
Main Article Content
Liriomyza trifolii Burgess (Diptera: Agromyzidae) is one of the main insect pests of Chrysanthemum in the Department of Cauca, Colombia. A study of the biological cycle showed the insect to have an egg stage with a mean duration of 4,1 days; a larval stage 9,9 days and the pupal stage, 15 days. Some of the main morphological characteristics of the insect are described herein. Among the natural enemies found, the more common parasites were Dyglyphus sp., D. begini, Closterocerus sp. and Pediobius sp. (Eulophidae); and the predators were Dolichopodidae (Diptera), Ponerinae (Hymenóptera) and Oxyopldae (Aracnida). Thirty different plant species were found to be alternate hosts to the leafminer.
