CONTROL OF MITE Retracrus elaeis Keifer THROUGH THE FUNGUS Hirsutella thompsonii Fisher AND INHIBITING IT BY TWO FUNGICIDES
Main Article Content
Three isolates of Hirsutella thompsonii Fisher were tested during 1979 - 1980, for controlling Retracrus elaeis Keifer a mite associated with orange spotting of hybrid oil palm (Elaeis guineensis X E. melanococca) in Colombia. All the isolates decreased significantly the populations of the mite up to 56 days after were sprayed as fragmented my Celia at 1% w/v in distilled water. Only one isolate was c.arrying out a good control of the post 90 days after being applied. Hirsutella sp was found in several places of the country as a natural control agent of R. elaeis. Sulfur and copper oxychloride were tested as in vitro inhibitors of H. thompsonii. Concentrations ranging from 50 to 500 ppm, caused a significant decrease in mycelial growth, sporulation, and conidial germination.
