During 1998, the Guainia "s Health Secretary made a diagnosis of malaria, following the positive patients, capturing mosquitoes, mapping and sampling places as well as identifying vectors in order to determine the incidence and the entomological aspects that are related with the transmission of this pathology in the Department. 2464 exams of thick drops were taken, 343 of them were positive for the first time, they were distributed as followed: 292 from the department of Guainia, 47 from the department of Vichada, 2 from the department of Meta and 2 from Venezuela; 71 exams were considered a relapse. The incidence of malaria in Ouaínía ' s department in 1998 was 11 per one thousand inhabitant, the prevalence was 13 per one thousand. One per every seven new cases of malaria was relapsed. The percentage of positive tick drops for the first time was 12.6%, the relation Plasmodium vivax: Plasmodium falciparum 6: l. The anophelines identified in the urban area were Anopheles oswaldoi, A. rangeli, A. darlingi, and A. trinkae; in the rural area were A. triannulatus, A. oswaldoi, A. evansae and A. peryassui. In relation to the anopheline breeding places, the urban area was worked sampling there weekly during the summer; they were handled with organophosforades. Their distribution is represented on a map.  The observations of vectors' behavior were done intradomicile and periodomicile; the Anopheles are biting both inside and outside houses, but they are not resting in the walls or furniture of the houses.
