Aquatic insect community from the Mamarramos stream (Boyacá, Colombia)

A generic composition and the spatial patterns of the aquatic insect's community present in Mamarramos stream (Arcabuco- Boyacá) are given. Fieldwork between February and November in 1995 was carried out. The immature stages were collected with handscreens, Thienneman's net, Surber net and picking up of rocks, mosses, wood snags, and packs of decaying leaves. The chemical composition of the Mamarramos lotic system is dominated by maximum saturalion levels of dissolved oxygen, minimum organic load content, and low level of conductivity. The aquatic insect's community consists of 56 genera belonging to 31 families and 5 orders. The most important genera are leptohyphes (Ephemeroptera), Helicopsyche, Contulma, Ochrotrichia, Orumichella, Marilia (Trichoptera). Simulium, Maruina, and the subfamilies Orthocladiinae y Chironominae (Diplera).
