Galls caused by insects and mites found both in wild and cultivated plants in 13 localities of the Departamento del Valle (Colombia) were studied. Sixty-four plant species, including ten cultivated, belonging to 34 families and 46 genera, were found affected with galls. Families that presented the greatest number of species with galls were: Melastomataceae, Compositae, and Lauraceae with 6 species each and Mimosaceae and Rubiaceae with 3 species each. The malformations were caused in the same proportion by mites especially the trophies, and by insects. Plant organs in which galls were detected are: leaves (72 percent of host plants), stems (25 percent), roots, and fruits (1.5 percent respectively).
