During an entomological survey conducted to identify entomopathogens of the sugar cane borer Diatraea saccharalis F. in the sugar cane growing area of Río Negro (Cundinamarca), it was found that the fungus Paecilomyces sp. was affecting from 6.97% (La Magdalena area) to 9.16% (Villeta area) of the larvae of the insect. This is the first record of Paecilomyces sp. on D. saccharalis larvae in Colombia. It is considered that this fungus may become an additional tool in the integrated control programs of this pest in the country. Other fungi found also associated with larvae of the insect were Fusarium oxisporum, Penicillium sp. and Aspergillus sp. which are considered as secondary pathogens.
