COMPARATIVE STUDY OF LIFE CYCLES OF THREE SPECIES OF DEFOLIATORS OF Pinus patula
Main Article Content
This paper compares the life cycles of Cargolia arena (Dognin), Bassania schreiteri Schaus, and Melanolophia commotaria (Maassen) under different environmental conditions. The three species were reared at Las Palmas (2120 meters above sea level, 15°C). The first two species were also reared at Caldas (Antioquia) (1700 meters above sea level, 17°C) and the third one, at Medellín (1600 meters above sea level, 19°C). The data from the different sites were compared. The whole life cycle was longer when the temperature was lower. The differences were as follows: C. arana 17,3 days, B. schreiteri 15,7 days and M. commotaria 25,2 days. The differences were higher for the larval stage. The information obtained in this work would help to orient control programs against these insects if they become pests.
