EVALUATION OF PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL METHODS FOR THE CONTROL OF THE CHRYSANTHEMAL LEAF MINER Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess) DIPTERA: AGROMYZIDAE)
Main Article Content
Low temperature and insecticide treatments were evaluated for the control of the chrysanthemum leaf miner, Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess) (Diptera: Agromyzidae). The test showed that cuttings storage at 1.18°C for 15 days or' more prevented egg hatching and mine formation. Mine formation was also prevented in cuttings dipped in pyrazophos 30EC solutions (0.8 - 1.5 cc/It) for 1 to 5 minutes. Longer times may result in phytotoxicity. The insecticides pyrazophos 30EC and chlorpyrifos 4E were efficient in controlling first instar larvae. Chlorpyrifos also controlled adults. Permethrin and cifluthrin proved to be efficient for adult control. Pyrazophos 30EC was the only product that gave good control of second and third instar larvae of the chrysantemum leaf miner.
