The percent of damage and the weight losses caused by the maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky, were determined in 10 maize genotypes with different physical and chemical characteristics. Maize genotypes were infested with adult weevils during a period of 15 days in order to obtain oviposition. Three months later, the action of infected adults and their FI progeny were evaluated taking into account the exit 'toles in the grains and the differences between initial and final weights of the grain at the end of the experiment. Significant carrier of the Opaque gen-2 underwent the greatest losses.
