Mechanical control of the Bactris gasipaes fruits black weevil in the Colombian Pacific
Main Article Content
The fruit of chontaduro (Bactris gasipaes H.B.K.) is a very important source of food for people of the Pacific region of Colombia. For several years the growing fruits have been attacked severely by the black weevil,Geraeus sp. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). In order to control this weevil the following five treatments on the inflorescences, 0 to 24 hours after spathe opening, were compared: polinsecta bag, plastic bag, plastic bag plus insecticide, cloth fabric bag, and control. The probability of success in obtaining mature fruit was 69, 65, 60, 50, and 0 percent, respectively.
